Amazing 1.8 Million LEGO Brick Map of Japan

Every day we come across a new LEGO project online, some better than others. But when we saw this map of Japan, crafted with over 1.8 million LEGO bricks, we were more impressed than usual. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic building blocks being introduced into Japan, LEGO’s Japanese subsidiary sponsored a cross-country workshop called “Build Up Japan” where over 5000 people in 6 different regions collaborated to create the gigantic map.

Rather than recreating existing landmarks, participants were encouraged to imagine their ideal Japan and to create imaginary structures.  The finished product then traveled to Tokyo, where it was put on display.

Arran Gregory “WOLF” Exhibition @ Print House Gallery

London-based sculptor and illustrator Arran Gregory will be presenting his career’s third solo exhibition titled “WOLF” at the Print House Gallery in London. Expanding on themes visited in his first two exhibitions, the WOLF installation will also be playing on various fundamental and primitive aspects that are characteristic of the animal kingdom. The exhibit will feature Gregory’s life-sized rhino and wolf sculptures, along with a number of highly detailed, albeit pared-down illustrations tackling various aspects of nature’s wild world. You’ll have until September 6 to visit the exhibition at the Print House, which is located in Dalston, London.

Creative Recreation x BAIT ‘Spongebob’ Collection

BAIT and Creative Recreation join forces to fuse classic Creative Recreation styles with the iconic Spongebob universe. The collection features a “Raw and Uncut” concept that interprets the off-stage personalities and lifestyles of Spongebob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs.

These type of collaborations can go well, but unfortunately go most of the time very wrong. Making cartoon character sneakers for adults means balancing a thin line of adding just enough of the character, yet not too much, to ensure that the shoes still remain wearable. Thankfully we have the latter case here.

The characters appear on the footbeds, ice outsoles, and the attached rubber keychains, meaning that you need to take a second look to really figure out that it is a Spongebob infused collection. The four styles employ unique materials inspired by its respective character: including jacquard BAIT camo for Spongebob on the Lusco sneaker, dimensional zebra-patterned navy leather and suede for the Patrick Cesario Lo XVI, hairy cheetah print for Squidward’s Cesario XVI, and pinstripe suiting material for Mr. Krabs on the Kaplan V sneaker.

Here comes the coolest feature of the collection. Each pair is housed in a special BAIT Spongebob character box, which features cardboard arm and leg pieces that can be attached to form a 3-D Spongebob. The shoes will be displayed at the POP LIFE Exhibition in Beijing on August 17, 2012.

The sneakers are now available online at www. cr8rec.com.
