Sony Action Cam

Sony-action-cam-announced-1-62

Dropping the viewer squarely in the driver’s seat, the GoPro HD Hero, and its successor the Hero2 have been the de facto standard for high-octane, action sports photography for several seasons now, but that could all change with the advent of the new Sony Action Cam. The sleek and highly portable camera body is fitted with an Exmor R BSI CMOS 16-megapixel sensor and a Bionz processor unit, in addition to exceptional image stabilization and superior optical quality of a Carl Zeiss lens. Many of the features that have made the GoPro the go-to camera are also present on Sony’s Action Cam, like 1080p high definition at 30 frames per second, as well as 720 at an impressive 120fps for those epic slow-motion shots. Unique to this camera, however, are increased storage options (microSD or Sony Memory Stick compatible), along with a Micro-HDMI output so you can take the footage straight to your television. Additionally, the WiFi-equipped version of the camera (which adds around $70 USD to the price tag) can pair with select smartphones to transmit footage or act as a remote viewfinder, similar to the Contour+ camera already on the market. Luckily you won’t have to wait long, the $200 USD camera and a wide variety of mounts are slated to ship starting around the middle of September, so hurry and get your pre-order in now.
